Few days back when my friend sent me a link on Nationals IT Skills Registry ( a NASSCOM initiative) (https://nationalskillsregistry.com), I was elated that finally some nice steps are being taken on a national level. My humble request to all to read the process on their website at this page:
https://nationalskillsregistry.com/faq-understanding-nsr.htm
I was disappointed when i got the following answer for my following query, which i sent through their contact us page.
My question :
At the time of sampling and submission of fingerprints and other biometric data, is there a receipt of biometrics information issued to the registered user at the spot?
Their answer :
Hi The lower part of the acknowledgement form is torn and returned back to you with the TIN after submission of biometrics against the form. This is for tracking your biometric submission Regards NSR Team
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The bad part is this is happening and it causes a potential security threat to one's identity:
How does one know that the biometrics data is actually held there at the servers(It wont be shown on the website) and it is his own?? What is the guarantee that it wont be changed/MISUSED for some other places - will (Someone creates a false will and kills you)/land/property/bank/identity theft/blackmail?
Ideally, shouldnot they be providing a copy of the data they are taking along with their acknowledgement and seal? Thats the most transparent method.
Please do something on your part... Email them/Call them. Escalate this to people in power who can actually do something about it. Tell this to your friends.
Please act now else we will have another failed system. This is an humble request to all reading this.
PS: This was the first instance of biometrics security threat. The second one is much more pathetic and is on the second post. That will affect the entire population not only IT people.
